Image signifiers

         1827-1945                                             1945-1999                                             2000-present


 There are certain signifiers that can help you work out what time period photos are taken in. Obvious factors such as image quality, colour and cultural identifiers make the process easy. In the 1827-1945 the majority of photos were in black and white or very distorted colour as the camera quality and process was quite new at the time. From 1945-1999 there was more colour images but the image quality wasn't as good as present day in terms of detailing and style.
