I believe a photograph can be whatever the holder wishes it to be...

Photographers in the press will often intentionally take misleading photos in order to get more publicity. photograph can lie if you wish it to with technology like photoshop and the correct lighting. I think this makes most images we see on the internet of famous people or celebrities untrustworthy as they often make people too perfect and can often cause people to have personal confidence issues and lead people to want to change their appearance to reach this unreal "perfection".

Photographs can also be seen as memories. We can't remember everything we ever do in life however we can always look at an image an spring random images or thoughts from that image. People have logged entire lives on film and cameras an easily do the same thing.
